What this 12 volt 30 amp digital battery charger does
The Samco 12V 30 Amp charger is a high-frequency SMPS battery charger with a variable current dial and a digital ammeter showing live charging current in amps. It is the highest-current 12V charger in the Samco range, intended for large battery banks where a 12V 10A charger or 12V 15A charger would take considerably longer.
For many lead-acid batteries, around 10% of rated Ah capacity is sometimes used as a starting guideline for charging current — on that arithmetic a 300Ah battery works out at roughly 30A. It is a guideline and not a rating: the battery manufacturer's specified charging current always takes priority, and the dial can be turned down for smaller batteries.

How to charge a battery with the 12V 30A charger
Check the battery's recommended charging current
Read the label or datasheet for the battery's specified charging current and charging voltage. For many lead-acid batteries around 10% of rated Ah capacity is sometimes used as a starting guideline, but the manufacturer's specified figure always takes priority.
Connect the clamps to the battery
With the charger switched off and unplugged, connect the red clamp to the positive terminal and the black clamp to the negative terminal. Make sure both clamps are clean and firmly seated on the terminals.
Set the current dial before switching on
Turn the variable dial down before powering up, then bring it up to the figure you established in step 1, watching the ammeter as you go. Set it to the battery manufacturer's specified charging current rather than to the charger's maximum.
Power on and read the digital ammeter
Switch on at the mains and check that the digital ammeter shows current flowing. A deeply discharged battery will draw close to the dial setting; a partly charged one will draw less.
Monitor the current taper and disconnect
As the battery approaches a charged state the current normally tapers down. Check the battery periodically during charging, and follow the battery manufacturer's charging guidance to decide when charging is complete. Switch off at the mains before removing the clamps.
Charge in a ventilated space. Do not leave a battery on charge without checking on it periodically. A 6V–96V digital volt meter is useful for confirming resting voltage after charging.
