What this 12 volt 15 amp battery charger does
The Samco 12V 15 Amp charger is a high-frequency SMPS charger with a variable current dial and a digital ammeter that shows live charging current in amps. You set the charging current to suit the battery, and the display shows what the battery is actually drawing rather than leaving you to guess from a timer.
A commonly used guideline is around 10% of battery capacity as the charging current, but the battery manufacturer's recommended charging current should always take priority.

Which battery suits a 12 volt 15 amp charger?

How to charge a 12V battery with the 15 amp charger
- Check the battery rating first
Confirm the battery is 12V lead-acid, tubular, SMF or VRLA, and read the charging current its manufacturer recommends. A commonly used guideline is around 10% of rated Ah capacity, but the manufacturer's figure should always take priority.
- Connect the clamps before switching on
Attach red to the positive (+) terminal and black to the negative (−) terminal while the charger is unplugged. Reverse-polarity protection helps protect the charger if the clamps are switched, but a clean, firm connection is still good practice.
- Set the current dial
Turn the 0–15A dial to the current your battery manufacturer specifies — around 15A suits a 150Ah tubular battery, and a car battery needs a lower setting. Start low on a deeply discharged battery.
- Switch on and read the ammeter
The digital ammeter shows the current the battery is actually drawing. As the battery charges and its terminal voltage rises toward the charger's set point, the current typically falls.
- Disconnect at the end of the charge
A significant reduction in current can be one indication that charging is nearing completion. Follow the charging duration your battery manufacturer states, switch off the mains first, then remove the clamps. Check on the charger periodically rather than leaving it running unattended.
- Confirm the resting voltage
Let the battery rest, then check its voltage with a digital volt meter. If a battery repeatedly fails to hold charge, have it tested — it may have reached the end of its service life rather than being undercharged.

What current should I set on the dial?
Set the current your battery manufacturer specifies. Where no figure is given, the 10% guideline described above puts a 150Ah battery at roughly 15A, with a lower setting for a car battery.
What does the digital ammeter show?
Live charging current in amps — what the battery is actually drawing, rather than what a timer suggests. That reading normally tapers down as the battery approaches a charged state, which is what makes the end of a charge visible without a separate meter.
How long does a 150Ah inverter battery take to charge?
Charging time depends on the battery's initial state of charge, its condition, the recommended charging current and the current taper. A 150Ah battery may require many hours to charge fully.
Can I charge a car battery with this 15A charger?
Yes, technically, provided the current is reduced to the level specified by the battery manufacturer. However, for typical 35–100Ah car batteries our 12V 6A charger is the closer match and is the recommended choice. The 15A model is better suited to larger inverter, tubular and solar batteries.
Is this charger suitable for a 24V battery bank?
No. It is a 12V charger and is not intended for 24V, 36V or 48V banks. For two 12V batteries in a 24V series bank, use the 24V 10A charger.
What is the difference between this and the 12V 10A digital charger?
Both have a variable dial and a digital ammeter. The 12V 10A model tops out at 10A and suits batteries up to around 120Ah; this 15A model carries more current for 100–180Ah tubular and solar banks.
